In the modern society, i believe the media greatly affects the morals and ideas of the common person. Simple catchy slogans or deep headline phrases catches a persons attention and for the whole day plagues them with useless incoherent thoughts that distracts them. For example the headline from the MEN's magazine: "Sex Secrets Add to Love" To me this headline implies that sex is all a guy worries about. Now if you are a male, imagine that your walking by a normal kinda grundgy looking new stand and you spot this headline on a magazine that you haven't even't heard of. This headline would definitely catch your eye. You'd probably stop and pick it up! Seeing that this magazine has chosen this as their main headline kind of sends a message that it's one of the main articles in there. If your wondering what the definition of a headline is...Well here it is:1. a heading in a newspaper for any written material, sometimes for an illustration, to indicate subject matter, set in larger type than that of the copy and containing one or more words and lines and often several banks.
2. the largest such heading on the front page, usually at the top.
3. the line at the top of a page, containing the title."(Dictionary.com) Seeing as this is the biggest title on the front of the magazine, the company would be sure to get some people with it. I'm not saying only men think about these such things because in womans magazines they also include headlines that address the same matter. The message that I'm trying to get across is this. The media may not determine all of what's important in our lives, but the media does in turn affect us greatly. But then again you must remind yourself that the media also argues against itself! Thus making it harder for one to adapt the most important things it tries to project unto you. For example: The issues between the health media and the tobbaco media. Both sides saying and projecting totally different thoughts, but still are considered "The Media". What it comes down to is your own self decisions. Wether to be healthy, or live unhealthy is all up to you. In conclusion, I believe the media affects the ideas and morals of our society. Whether it's through Magazines, our favorite comercials, or through our favorite movie stars movies. The actions sometimes affects our opinions and lives.
