Historians corner

The history of revelations is quite interesting. The Congo has officially become an independent country. They've had their elections, and the winner is Patrice Lumumba. In documented history, the Congo was originally run by the Belgium government. Before 1960 a man named King Léopold II of Belgium ruled the Congo. His reign only lasted till 1960 a.k.a the independence of Congo. This day was: June 30,1960. On this day, the Congo also adopted a new name. The Congo was officially called The Republic of the Congo. After this joyous moment of independence, all hell broke loose! Looting and other crimes started to spread like wild fire. The Country was not in a good position. The provinces of Kasai and Katanga broke out into a full out rebellion. Mr. Lumumba panicked and turned to the USSR for help.It took the help of the U.S.,British, and Belgian governments to restore the break away provinces back to normal. This was unfortunately the beginning of a long rebellion. Up till 1965, the country had been opposed with many different problems. At that time the commander in Chief Lieutenant General Mobutu took hold of the country and declared himself president. In 1970 he held an official election, proving that he was elected with out questions. For his campaign he focused on cutural awareness. He then renamed the country: Country of Zaire.
That's all so far! I'll update with more over the vacation! seeya!
